The green slopes & the search for snow in the alps last season have become a distant memory. Whilst England has been blessed with some early snow to finish of 2017, it cannot be compared with Morzine & the rest of the Alps. All off the mountain range has been hit with a delightful amount of early season snow making it almost impossible to avoid. With a snow depth of 175cm in lower altitudes & 240cm higher up already on the Mountain in Morzine & Les Gets.
Whilst many decided to stay away from an early season ski-holiday, the Zenith Holidays’ guests who booked into Morzine for Christmas this year found they were heavily rewarded. After weeks of fresh snow, the mountain cleared up leaving clear blue skies combining with quite slopes making for the perfect Christmas day ski.
The exciting start to the season here in Morzine is not only a result of the conditions on the slopes but also the events off it, with the Christmas period bringing events & joy all around resort. Christmas eve brought everyone in the town to the bottom of the Pléney lift to watch the display of the ESF’s elves & Santas skiing down the mountain at night holding torches followed by a fireworks display. While in the week before all the bars along the main high street were full of Christmas music & the Santa Crawl on the 27th being the perfect conclusion to the Christmas time here in Morzine when loads of locals and tourists all gathered in santa costumes to ski a loop around Avoriaz to then assemble together for the Eskimo Ball for mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas Karaoke.
While the Christmas time may be coming to a close here, the ski season is only just getting started. After a few days of clear skies for our Christmas guests the snow clouds have come back to Morzine in dramatic fashion with between 50 & 60cm of snow falling over the last few days ensuring that the perfect start of the season continues into the New Year making the rest of the season something to look forward to for all of the Zenith guests and our team here in Morzine.
