Danube Cycle Path Hits for Kids

This fantastic cycling tour has been developed especially with families in mind.

With a ferris wheel, boat and train rides included, this tour ensures that your children won't get bored on their bikes! It is aimed more at families with younger children who will enjoy the option of a donkey riding adventure as well as a boat ride on the daunbe with the chance to get a "Captain's licence"

Getting here

We can arrange airport transfer from Munich or train transfers from Vienna

  • Day 1 - Arrival in Linz

    Arrive in resort - time to pick up travel documents, bikes and then there is free time for the rest of the day - children may like to take a trip on the dragon train!


  • Day 2 - Linz to Mitterkirchen (approx 43km)

    Today you will visit a Celtic Open Air Museum where you are shown the ways of living during the Iron Age.  

    Accommodation for this evening will be in a cosy farmhouse in the region of Machland.


  • Day 3 - Mitterkirchen to – Strudengau (approx. 43 km)

    On your way to Strudengau you will pass by old markets and castles nestled in forested rolling hills.

    If you like you can visit the Maritime Museum of Grein where you will find impressive models of ancient ship building and early naval architecture.  

    In Ardagger there is a paradise of recreation including a water park recreational facility and sandy beach volleyball courts.


  • Day 4 - Strudengau – Wachau (approx. 49 km)

    Today your cycling will take you into the world renowned Valley of the Wachau, one of the most gorgeous riverside landscapes Europe has to offer.4

    Cycling through the seemingly endless vineyards you will eventually reach the winery village of Spitz.

     


  • Day 5 - Extra day in Wachau day of rest

    You can enjoy the beautiful landscape of Wachau today and explore the castle of Dürnstein or Aggstein, visit the museum of ship building in Spitz or take a bath in the beautiful Danube river.


  • Day 6 - Wachau – Tulln (approx. 40 km) + ship ride Spitz - Krems

    Today you will cycle through some spectacular landscape with steep rock walls, sun kissed terraced vineyards, beautifully blooming orchards, quaint villages, dignified monasteries and authentic castles.

    Take advantage of all the splendid panoramic views until you reach Tulln.

     


  • Day 7 - Tulln – Vienna (approx. 35 km)

    As you approach Vienna on your back you will get a great view of the skyline before entering this fast paced city.

    Once in Vienna, kids will have a great time enjoying traditional sweets and hot chocolate.

    At nearly every corner you'll hear waltzes, impromptu violin concerts and various see street performers. When the kids need a change of pace, head to the east side of Vienna to ride the worlds’ oldest Ferris wheel and run around the fun filled all-year-round amusement park “Prater”


  • Day 8 - Vienna

    Before leaving Vienna, make sure to visit the famous Naschmarkt (international foods/goods) and stop by the beautiful imperial castle Schönbrunn or even the Zoo.

    The train ride is provided back to Linz (personal bike with surcharge), or of course you can extend your stay in the City of Music.
