Skiing in Alpbach

Alpbach is located on a sunny plateau at approximately 1,000m above sea level. Renowned and appreciated for its architectural style and floral decorations Alpbach has been voted "Austria´s most beautiful village" and its perfect for an alpine holiday.

The ski resort of Alpbach is part of the Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschönau area and offers 145km of downhill skiing, with 83 individual pistes, served by 47 ski lifts.

The skiing in Alpbach itself is 45km of pisted ski runs but the area is now linked up to allow skiing in the other Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski resorts - these are Auffach, Kramsach, Niederau, Oberau, Reith im Alpbachtal and Thierbach.

For many years Alpbach has been popular on the British market and continues to welcome significant numbers of British skiers each winter

Skiing in Alpbach

The Alpbach valley is known for it's varied slopes and is nowpart of the larger Ski Juwel ski area.  The heart of the ski area is the new 8-person gondola which runs parallel to the existing 8-person gondola Pöglbahn from Inneralpbach up to the Schatzberg Mountain. Fhighest part of the ski area (the Hornlift 2000) you can take in the incredible views  towards the Rofan Range, Ziller valley and Alpbach peaks .

There are some great options for families as well as for non skiers.

Frosty's Schneewelt is situated at the top of the Wiedersbergerhorn lift and is a special area with magic carpet lifts and play areas for children to learn whilst having fun. Parents can go off and ski from here too and you access more of the mountain as a family.

For the non skiers

There are plenty of other activities for any no skiers or if you want to try something else. There are three great toboggan runs as well as paragliding, winter walking and snowshoeing. The medieval town of Rattenburg (Austrias smallest town) on the Inn river is not far and worth a visit - especially around Christmas for Advent. It is also wel known for it's traditional Tyrolean glassware.

What We Like

  • great resort for families
  • pretty alpine resort (has been voted Austrias most beautiful village)

What We'd Change

The village of Alpbach is beautiful, but it is a short bus ride from the slopes which does mean getting the navette each day. It would be great if you could ski back to the village, but the bus service is good and doesn't take long.

Top 5 Things to do

  1. Try Coffee and schnapps for Apres Ski at the Postalm
  2. Have a go at one of the three toboggan runs
  3. Take a trip to the Swarovksi Kritallworld which is just 36km away
  4. Relax with a massage at the wellness area in the Romantikhotel Boglerhof
  5. See the area from above with a tandem paraglide flight
