Skiing in Ischgl
Previously, Ischgl was called "Yscla", and mountain farmers led their lives here practically cut off from the world outisde. Back then no one imagined that this small village would become one of the most eventful holiday destinations, ever and today, Ischgl is an internationally known tourist centre.
The resorts in Ischgl
There are 4 different resorts in the valley (See, Kappl, Ischgl and Galtur) and Ischgl is the largest of them. Its ski area - the Silvretta Arena Ischgl-Samnaun - is connected with the ski resort of Samnaun across the border in Switzerland.
Together this ski area is one of the largest skiing resorts in the Alps. An efficient high altitude lift system and beautiful scenery make Ischgl a true paradise for skiers and boarders alike. Nursery slopes are in an open bowl at the top of the mountain easily reached by gondola and the vast 'Silvretta Ski Arena' boasts 238kms of slopes with many long and open runs.
For a lovely long ski we recommend the Duty Free run (also known as Smugglers Run) from the border down into Samnaun.

In 1995 Elton John became the first of many international pop stars to feature in one of the resort's now well known Top Of the Mountain beginning and end of Season concerts. Since then the resort has hosted acts such as Kylie Minogue, The Pussy Cat Dolls, Sting, Lionel Richie, Leona Lewis, Katy Perry, Pink, Rod Stewart and many more.......
The 2012-13 Start of season concerts included Amy Macdonald, The Scorpions and DJ Antoine. The Top of the Mountain end of season concert starred Deep Purple. Nickelback opened the 13/14 season and Robbie Williams did the closing concert in May.
Renowned as an apres-ski stronghold, Ischgl knows how to thrill its guests with a nightlife that is stylish and urban and stands up to comparison with every city in the world, however at the same time, guests seeking peace and quiet can also find that Ischgl fulfils their expectations.
Since 1994 the resort has also hosted the snowsculpture competition Shapes In White - these scupltures are made at the start of January and then left to melt gradually, but can still be seen for most of the winter season.
