There are many reasons why this is such a popular place to spend a skiing holiday, not least the traditional wooden chalets, the lack of cars and the fact that nowhere is very far. In fact, conditions are just perfect for families – parents can let their children roam freely in Oz en Oisans without having to worry about them and there are excellent facilities for those just learning to ski.
Placed between the Belledonne et Grandes Rousses mountain ranges, Oz-en-Oisans is made up of 10 hamlets and the resort of Oz Station which extends from de 800-1350m.
The hamlets, Oz Village, le Roberand, le Bessey, Sardonne, l’Ile d’Oz, le Boulangeard, le Pontonnier, la Beurrière, la Voûte, le Pré de l’Arche and l'Enversin are so widely scattered they make Oz one of the largest municipalities in the Oisans.
Just 55km south of Grenoble, only 45 minutes's drive, Oz-en-Oisans has the fastest access to the high mountains in the Oisans. As a pedestrianised resort it is perfect for children and retains a wonderful charm with plenty of traditional shops and restaurants to experience.

Skiing in Oz-en-oisans
What helps make this area so satisfying is the fact that its extensive slopes face in so many different directions, enabling skiers to always find the best snow and conditions by simply following the sun! From Oz-en-Oisans, there are two accessible ski areas. Oz/Vaujany and Alpe d'Huez grand domaine. They are two fully linked and integrated areas with opportunities to learn, discover or re-discover the joys of skiing for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and levels. Furthermore, skiing back to the resort is guaranteed by snowmaking.
Oz/Vaujany skiing area is an ideal area for beginners and intermediate skiers alike, with pistes totaling 70km. A gentle return to the resort is assured on the Blue “Chevreuils” piste. Great for children, beginners and those with weary legs. If, however, you want to explore the entire Alpe d'Huez ski area, you can purchase a daily “Grandes Rousses” supplement.
If you like the great outdoors, look no further... Oz en Oisans is the doorway to a vast and varied ski area. With quick and easy access by cable car, you can enjoy 250 km of managed slopes! The Sarenne, for example, is the longest black run in the world. It starts at Pic Blanc (3330m) and descends via the Gorges de Sarenne (1510m) - 16km of pure happiness in a unique and spectacular setting.
A popular highlight of holidaying in the Oz-e- Oisans area is without doubt the chance to ski by moonlight. Every Wednesday throughout the season there is the chance for beginners and professional skiers alike to join a ski tour and experience the unique pleasure of skiing beneath the stars.
Other activities include paragliding, skidoos, helicopter trips, ice driving and micro light flights.
