THE VALLEYS OF ALTA PUSTERIA – AT THE FOOT OF THE DOLOMITES

 

At the foot of the Dolomites you cycle without meeting steep inclines, along new valley cycle paths, among which are also the classic “Toblach/Dobbiaco – Lienz” and the “Drava/Drau bicycle path”. The Lake Toblach, the view to the “Three Peaks”, as well as typical towns and a lot of other things will rest in your remembrance for a long time...

From your hotel in Alta Pusteria/Hochpustertal you leave every day for your bicycle tour. The programme gives you space for an individual organization of the stages and guarantees fun for all cyclists, equal if athletic ambitious or “pleasure-seeking”. The bicycle tour leads you into side valleys of Alta Pusteria to Sexten and Gsies and on the old Dolomites railway track to Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Each stage starts on the highest point and you cycle comfortably down the valley back to the starting point.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Alta Pusteria

(Niederdorf/Villabassa, Toblach/Dobbiaco)


Individual arrival at the hotel in the heart of the
Dolomites (Niederdorf/Toblach). Free parking facilities are available at the hotel in Alta Pusteria.

Day 2: The Pusteria Valley along the river Rienz

Toblach/Niederdorf Bruneck/Brunico Brixen/Bressanone (approx. 30 km till Bruneck or approx. 55-60 km till Brixen/Bressanone)

Starting from the highest point in Toblach/Niederdorf the cycle path is wriggling along the river „Rienz“ through the villages of the valley to Bruneck/Brunico. Ambitious cyclists have the possibility to continue till Brixen/Bressanone, the others can visit comfortably the little city of Bruneck/Brunico or the open-air museum of Dietenheim/San Teodone, before the return transfer back to the hotel take place.

Day 3: The Sexten Valley

From the Sexten Dolomites to Toblach/Niederdorf (approx. 20-25 km)

After a transfer into the valley „Fischleintal“, the
starting point of today’s stage, you go on by bike.

From aloft some famous peaks of the Dolomites are greeting while you stroll through the Sexten-valley. Out of the valley you cycle to Innichen/San Candido (famous Romanic dome!). After refreshment on the source of the river Drau/Drava you return to the hotel. The “more indefatigable” have the possibility to prolong the tour, as they circle additionally the Lake Toblach.

Day 4: “Drava/Drau bicycle path”

the classic “Toblach/Dobbiaco–Lienz” (approx. 60 km, consistent slightly downwards)


You leave Toblach/Dobbiaco and arrive firstly to Innichen/San Candido, before you overstep the nearby Italian-Austrian border in the nearness of Winnebach/Prato Drava. Suavely you cycle to Lienz, which is located on the confluence of Isel and Drava. Worth seeing are the historic center and the archeological excavations of “Aguntum” from the Roman times. Return transfer to your hotel on the afternoon.

Day 5: Cycling path along the Dolomites railway track

Niederdorf/Toblach – Cortina d’Ampezzo – Pieve di Cadore (approx. 65 km with consistently slight increase till Cimabanche or approx. 50 km consistent slightly downwards)


On the cycle path of the old railway track of the Dolomites you arrive through the “Höhlenstein” valley to Lake Toblach; shortly after you will have a unique panoramic view to the rock formation of the “Three Peaks”, before you reach under the massif of the Cristallo the Lake Landro. On the unique road, with especially for cyclists illuminated tunnels of the erstwhile track, the path leads you to Cortina d’Ampezzo. Continue going slightly downwards and you will reach the birthplace of Tiziano at Pieve di Cadore. From here is effected a return transfer by shuttle bus.

Day 6: From Gsies-valley to Niederdorf/Toblach

(approx. 40 km by bicycle)

After the breakfast transfer to the starting point of the tour in the Gsies-valley. This valley is affected from traditional farms and a big calmness and tranquility... In Welsberg/Monguelfo there is the possibility to visit the castle or to have a break in Niederdorf/Villabassa for searching refreshment in the Kneipp facility.

Day 7: Individual departure
